Delivering Value Demos That Resonate
Stop showing features. Start showing outcomes.
A demo is not a tour of your product. It's a translation. You're taking what the buyer told you in discovery and proving — visually — that your solution removes the cost of their problem.
If a stranger could give your demo to a stranger, it isn't a value demo. It's a feature show.
From features to outcomes
Every feature you might show has a corresponding outcome the buyer cares about. The skill is making the link explicit and short.
Try this format out loud before every demo: 'You told me X is costing you Y. Here's how we make X go away — and what that's worth.' If you can't say it in two sentences, you don't understand the buyer well enough yet.
A demo that resonates
Three habits separate a value demo from a feature dump.
- 1Show three things, not thirty
Pick the capabilities that map directly to what discovery surfaced. Cut the rest — even the impressive ones.
- 2Use their data, their language
Their account name, their workflow, their KPIs. The buyer should see themselves on the screen.
- 3Pause for reaction
Stop after each capability and ask, 'How does that compare to how you do this today?' Their reaction is the demo.
